"Content is anything that adds value to a reader's life." Avinash Kaushik
This week presents a wealth of opportunities to share about our faith.
March 17 - Feast of Saint Patrick
March 19 - Feast of Saint Joseph
March 23 - Third Sunday of Lent
March 24 - Feast of Saint Oscar Romero
March 25 - Feast of the Annunciation
But where do you find ideas about how to present these various feast days in a way that will catch people's attention. Below are a few ideas.
Artworks
There are so many beautiful paintings by the masters - and they are almost all in the public domain.
What that means is that you can use them without a licence. The easiest way to find these paintings is with good old Google.
Type in what you are looking for and click on the images. Wikipedia almost always uses art that is in the public domain so that's a good place to start.
There is a beautiful painting of Saint Joseph with the Infant Jesus by Guido Reni painted in 1635 - definitely in the public domain: click here for the image.
Movies
I like to recommend movies about saints and one of my favorites is "Romero" starring Raul Julia. Provide a short bio of Saint Romero and then suggest people watch the movie. It's available for free on YouTube. Click here for a photo of Saint Romero that's in the public domain!
Quotes
Quotes, especially by Saints, can be so incredibly powerful. Quotes speak for themselves. Ask people to provide their thoughts in the comments. The best way to find a good quote - Google of course! Type quotes about X in the search bar and then start reading the quotes to find one that speaks to you. I usually try to go for something relatively short, but longer works too. Scripture
Take one or two lines from the day's scripture, whether from the readings, the Psalm or the Gospel and turn it into a post. Go to Canva, search for a quote template, add the scripture and voilà you have yourself a post. You can find the daily readings on the website of the US Bishops, just click here.
Aleteia
I talked about Aleteia in a previous blog post: Let the Journey Begin. More than likely they will have at least one article on the topic of the feast day or the saint. Simply share the link directly to your Facebook page or copy and paste it. You'll automatically have the photo and the headline!
Bottom Line
There are so many ideas and resources to choose from. So get out the Liturgical Calendar and have a look at the upcoming feasts. Then spend 30 minutes brainstorming ideas for how to share about the various feasts, solemnities and liturgical season. You will be surprised what you come up with.
One last tip, if this feels overwhelming focus on one resource, for example just do a series of quotes or a series of paintings rather than trying to do something different for each day. You got this!
